Iron Horse District Rocket Derby & Cookout
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, Iron Horse District will hold a Rocket Derby and Cookout on Saturday, July 20th from 9am – 1pm at Frisco Commons Park. Scouts may build and decorate Water Rockets using recycled materials, with a standard 20oz or 1L bottle as the core. Kits may also be purchased online at www.pitsco.com (R2K Water Rocket) or from other retailers. Rockets should be built in advance, but we will have extra kits available to build on-site starting at 9am for those who reserve a kit with their registration.
We will begin launching Water Rockets using water & compressed air starting around 10am. Scouts may continue to re-launch their rockets until we run out of water, or until the rockets fall apart…whichever comes first!
9:00am Rocket Build – For Scouts/siblings who reserved a kit, $5 each
10:00am Rocket Launch
11:30am Cookout – Hot dog, chips, and drink for $5/person
Join us after the launch for a cookout with hot dogs, chips, and beverages for $5/person. To make sure we have enough for everyone, please register in advance if you’re staying for lunch. Vegetarian options available on request.
Come enjoy a morning of games, rockets, and Scouting fun as we honor the astronauts (and former Scouts!) who led the way with one small step taken 50 years ago!
Anyone who builds their rocket in advance and does not stay for lunch is not required to register. This form is just so we have enough rocket kits and food to go around. For questions or to volunteer on launch day, please contact Franc Moses at email@example.com
